Role:

Artist & Community Engagement

Working with lead artist Gordon Young, we were tasked with carrying out consultation and engagement with the community in relation to a new leisure and culture centre.

The aim was to create an alphabet for Knowsley, based on Edward Lear’s Nonsense Alphabets, which he wrote whilst living and working at Knowsley Hall. We invited members of the community to suggest words to go with some of the letters and to submit rhymes to accompany them. These were then made into permanent artworks by professional sculptors, craftspeople and designers. We were asked to design the letter ‘R’ which stood for Robot and Rats. We chose to make this fully integrated into the fabric of the building by working with the flooring supplier, Forbo, to create this design in lino, to be read whilst walking up the stairs.
